Manufacture de l'Estroppe (HALL) mid-19th century - Lot 156
Manufacture de l'Estroppe (HALL) mid-19th century ENCRIER depicting a reclining lion breaking its chains and holding a cartouche with the inscription "L'Union fait la force" ("Union is strength") mark without dimension lg. 25cm This inkwell commemorates the liberation of 1830, and the subject of the lion breaking its chains is inspired by an engraving by E. Verboekhoven. Observation: the attribution is authenticated by an identical model with the intaglio mark "JBC" for Jean Baptiste Cappellemans.
