LE SAVETIER ET LA RAVAUDEUSE - Lot 163
LE SAVETIER ET LA RAVAUDEUSE Hard porcelain after a model by Paul Louis Cyfflé in Lunéville, decorated in polychrome porcelain. One or two small missing pieces (2 arbor support bars, ). Ht. 22.5cm. Eighteenth-century model made in the early twentieth century in XLII hard porcelain. OBSERVATION This model by P.L.Cyfflé is well known in Lorraine, where it is designed on the same terrace. Here, it is made in two parts. In 1785, Cyfflè moved to Hastière Lavaux in the Numurois region, where a document in his hand (Archives de l'Etat, Namur) records the damage caused by French troops in 1791. It clearly states that he was still producing his models created in Lunéville. It is possible that these molds were later recovered by the Saint Servais factory in Namur; for the second factory in Ixelles, under the direction of Mr. Demeuldre, recovered these molds that were about to be destroyed and produced copies to save them. A model of the savetier can be found in the collection of the 2nd manufacture in Ixelles, with a descriptive inscription on the reverse. Our two models are therefore to be attributed to XLII according to P.L. Cyfflé.
